Streamlabs announces a new fundraising tool for streamers and charities

The system also integrates with X’s new live broadcast chat functionality, so you can monitor chat messages in the Streamlabs desktop add as you stream. The desktop app also lets you adjust monetization options on the fly, including custom alerts for tipping and overlays for branded content. Additionally, content creators have access to the Streamlabs merch store so they can hawk branded products while they stream.

Streamlabs Studio will let creators add widgets and overlays without the need for a capture card.

This is a strange time to announce a partnership with X, given Musk’s recent behavior and the ongoing exodus of advertisers from the social media platform. So far this exodus has included Apple, Disney, Paramount, Sony, Warner Brothers Discovery and others. It looks like Streamlabs, and by extension Logitech, has decided to buck trends and tie its horse to the X wagon. For regular users, this partnership will allow people to chat with their favorite streamers in real-time straight from X, though this feature looks to be paywalled behind one of those Blue subscriptions, or Premium or whatever it’s called these days.

Twitch, for example, leads some campaigns itself — like its regular Twitch Rivals charity events — and some are spearheaded by individual streamers (like Ben “DrLupo” Lupo) who feel passionate about raising money for the less fortunate among us. Today, the live-streaming toolkit Streamlabs is launching its own charity offering, which is built right into the software. Last month, Twitch released its own broadcasting software, Twitch Studio, that’s designed to help new streamers get streaming as soon as possible (and, hopefully stay streaming on the platform as streaming becomes more popular). Streamlabs OBS is more sophisticated, with more options, themes, and apps you can use to perfect the look of your stream, but it lets you stream to Twitch as well as rival platforms like YouTube, Mixer, and Facebook. Typically, Twitch streamers who broadcast their console gameplay have had to run the video through a PC with the help of a capture card if they want to add bells and whistles like onscreen donation alerts or custom layouts. Xbox owners can now select “Streamlabs” as a destination in the Twitch app and log into the Streamlabs Studio website to customize their stream.

Streamlabs’ new livestreaming tool offers streamers a new way to make money — and it won’t even be taking a commission. As The Verge notes, that makes Streamlabs Creator Subscription a more appealing option than Twitch’s built-in service, which takes a 50 percent cut from the subscription fees streamers get. Especially since Streamlabs’ new tipping tool can be directly integrated into its popular OBS software suite anyway. The OBS software can be used to stream not just on Twitch, but also on YouTube, Facebook and TikTok. One of the more fascinating parts of live-streaming culture is its penchant for raising money for charities; it’s a regular feature across sites and streamers.

Logitech has agreed to acquire Streamlabs, which makes the popular live streaming app Streamlabs OBS, for approximately $89 million in cash. The pairing seems like a natural fit, as Logitech already makes widely-used gaming peripherals and streaming gear.
